Activities in School During Closure

Hello.

Welcome to this page, which will showcase some of the activities that key worker children will be participating in whilst in school during the closure. 

 

Monday 22nd June 2020

From today, children have been placed into 'bubbles' please see the new 'Class Bubble' page and click on your child's bubble to see what activities they have enjoyed each day.

 

Friday 19th June 2020

Today, the children enjoyed some French activities and created a powerpoint from their research on the classification of animals. There was some super research and informative powerpoints. The children who have been designing and creating Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory made their own delicious chocolate bars. 

 

Thursday 18th June 2020

For today's activity the children looked at the processes involved when producing food and drink such as wheat, milk and fish. The children looked at one of these and created their very own flow chart to illustrate these processes. The children have also enjoyed painting and decorations stones. Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory has had some chocolate bars designed and a queue of children waiting to visit!

 

Wednesday 17th June 2020

 After learning about space exploration yesterday, the children created their own cardboard rockets today and put them on display with their favourite space exploration fact. Some children enjoyed a bug search and nature. They have also made progress with their Charlie and the Chocolate Factory art project.

 

Tuesday 16th June 2020

This morning the children have watched some videos about space exploration then conducted their own research, creating either a PowerPoint or a poster on the laptops. This afternoon the children practiced their multiplication and division skills to complete a mosaic picture.

 

Monday 15th June 2020

Today, the children looked at where their food comes from in terms of farming. The children looked closely at a dairy farm and analysed all the different things that farmer do to ensure that their animals are happy and healthy. We discussed the Red Tractor Logo and how it symbolises the set of standards which farmers must meet in order for their food to be given the logo. Later, the children completed some African art using geometric patterns and bright colours. Some children have been looking at the story of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and have begun designing and building their own! 

 

 

Friday 12th June 2020

In our French activity today, the children took part in a number of fun activities to help them learn the French alphabet. Team Logan/Cole were the winners of the 'French sounds' bingo game.

In the afternoon session, the children made and launched their own 'NASA' straw rockets. In the upper junior heat, Daicie's rocket went the furthest. Oliver's rocket was the winner of the lower junior heat. Daicie and Oliver then competed against each other. Daicie's rocket was triumphant!

A group of children made rice crispy cakes today, they looked delicious!

 

Thursday 11th June 2020

Following on from yesterday's learning, the children looked at what they can do to have and maintain a healthy lifestyle. They looked at the different food categories and then reflected on the benefits of eating from all of the food groups. The children then created their very own eat well plate - they were asked to illustrate a plate of food they currently enjoy or one that they would like to try in the future. This afternoon the children created an acrostic poem based around nature and created some art work at the top to link with their chosen word. We talked about the green Blue Peter badge they can apply for - parents of children in school today, please check your emails to explain this exciting opportunity! A group of children have started a new topic on the Pied Piper, they have created rats and are starting to build a display.

 

Wednesday 10th June 2020

Today, the children have been looking at healthy eating and the food groups.They have identified which foods contain certain vitamins, which are a good source of protein and carbohydrates. The children have created an advert on their favourite foods.

 

Tuesday 9th June 2020

Today, the children developed their football skills, then designed a school flag - there were some fantastic designs. 

 

Monday 8th June 2020

Today, the children looked at examples of Aboriginal art, then created their own pieces of artwork. The children also made rain makers and included design ideas from the earlier activity on Aboriginal art.

The hand print tree started last week has been completed. The day was completed with a group of children making crayon etchings.

 

 

Friday 5th June 2020

Today, the children watched a recycling video, completed a quiz and took part in a poster competition. Well done to everyone for some great designs. The children enjoyed reviewing or learning their numbers to 69 in French and played a bingo game. The children also enjoyed making glitter jar shakers and paper weaving activities.

 

Thursday 4th June 2020

Today, the children took part in some hockey drills and a game.  Later, the children made rainbow twirlers out of paper plates. Yesterday's activity of making houses and items out of cardboard continued and they finished a growing together tree with all their hands.

 

Wednesday 3rd June 2020

Today the children looked at Hinduism and created their own Mandala artwork. The children made houses and items out of cardboard and also made a growing together tree with all their hands. The children watched a few short clips of superheros and identified their strengths and weaknesses. They then used these, alongside the outfits/superhero logos they had seen to create and describe their very own superhero creation. The results were very creative and it was lovely to see how far the children stretched their imagination.

 

Tuesday 2nd June 2020

Today, the children continued drawing from a small picture on their page. We sat outside in the beautiful sunshine. We also rescued a lethargic bee, we gave it some sugared water, which it drank. We then left it near the water and once it had gained some energy it flew away. The children also watched a video clip of the Nasa SpaceX launch from Saturday. The children then completed a coordinates activity and designed their own rocket. 

 

Monday 1st June 2020

Today the children experimented with string art using different media and coloured string to create their own art work. The children then learnt about the art form pointillism and experimented with the technique to create their own inspired pictures.

Today, the children created their own miniature books linked to an activity set by the British Library. 

 

Thursday 21st May 2020

During today's session, the children thought about being 'engineers' and the processes involved in designing a product. The children looked at what was meant by the term 'engineers' and the job that they do. They then thought about objects that engineers had created and how these support their everyday life. The children were then given a set of problems with the task of designing a product to provide a solution. The children did really well with this and provided plenty of creative ideas when thinking of ways in which the problems could be resolved. This afternoon, the children made nature catchers, they knotted together some fallen twigs, to create a triangle, they then wrapped wool around. We hung them in the tree to see what nature is caught in them.

Wednesday 20th May 2020

In the morning, the children created their thank you stars to different members of staff for 'Thank A Teacher Day'. They then created grabber toys using cardboard and split pins. In the afternoon, we looked at creating a landscape collage of places we would like to visit after the lockdown.

 

Tuesday 19th May 2020

This morning the children researched how to maintain a sustainable diet, using a model with an apple to help them understand how much of the land on Earth we can use to grow food. This afternoon, our theme was gratitude. The children chose items from in and around school that made them thankful for different reasons, then created a drawing to display what they chose. 

 

Monday 18th May 2020

Today, the children enjoyed mini beast and scavenger hunts. Later, the children participated in athletic activities and learning some cricket skills. 

 

Friday 15th May 2020

Today, the children listened to the Harry Potter book and created a group art project where each child designed a tile and this was then put together to create a large Harry Potter portrait. In French, they learnt how to say different foods and created their French dinner plate with a description.

 

Thursday 14th May 2020

Today, the children learnt about Pharoahs in Ancient Egyptian times. They then created pictures of themselves as a Pharoah. Later, the children learnt about how people told the time many years ago, when we didn't wear watches or have clocks. The children then made their own sundial. 

 

Wednesday 13th May 2020

Today the children have been learning about air raid shelters, also known as bomb shelters, they were created to protect people during bomb attacks from the enemy air craft. The children then learnt about a commonly used home made shelter, which was known as the Anderson shelter. This would be built, with beds inside, in the garden to protect from air raids. After learning about them, the children really enjoyed making their own. They were amazing and individual. 

 

Tuesday 12th May 2020

This morning, the children created collages of Spitfire planes, then enjoyed a game of dodge ball. 

 

Monday 11th May 2020

This morning, the children learnt about hieroglyphics and had a go at writing their own names. This afternoon we conducted interviews based on war time roles the children were given. They had to research their role in pairs to come up with interview questions and answers.

Thursday 7th May 2020

During today’s activity, the children became scientists - they used felt tips, water and kitchen roll to create some ‘kitchen roll magic.’ For their experiments, the children used felt tips to draw on their kitchen roll in multiple ways. When the kitchen roll was then added to water, they watched the water pull the colour of the ink up through the kitchen roll like magic - the children did really well with this experiment and the finished results were very impressive! The children also looked at coats of arms, they then designed their own for their family. 

 

Wednesday 6th May 2020

Today the children have made Obon lanterns, they have been beautifully decorated - some even have thank you NHS designs. The children have also listened and watched a clip on 'The Boy Who Cried Wolf' afterwards they have designed their own storyboards/comic strips based around the fable. 

 

Tuesday 5th May 2020

This morning the children took part in Pirate maths - a child from Blyton was the winner with £11,600! To celebrate VE Day on Friday the children have been cracking the Morse code, creating bunting to decorate the hall and designing a 75th Anniversary cup. 

 

Monday 4th May 2020

Today, is Children’s day, which is a Japanese national holiday that takes place annually on May 5th. It is a day set aside to respect children's personalities and to celebrate their happiness.The children looked at and made a Koinobori which is carp-looking wind sock that Japanese people hang up to decorate during this holiday time. Later, the children participated in a game of badminton. 

 

Friday 1st May 2020

Today the children learnt about French impressionist painters and then created their own impressionist style landscape painting. In the afternoon, the children then learnt about adaptations and created a new animal and described how it was adapted to its habitat and environment.

 

Thursday 30th April 2020

This morning the children created their own fact files on the Continents of the world, they researched the continents on the laptops. This afternoon the children looked at the history of the Dream Catcher and how it can help them sleep, they then created their own to take home.

 

Wednesday 29th April 2020

Today, the children have been learning about plastic pollution and then made 3D sea creature mobiles.

 

Tuesday 28th April 2020

Developing their skills from yesterday, the children have designed and created safety posters. The children have also enjoyed looking at ancient Olympic games and Greek pottery. They have created their own designs on Greek urns and taken part in Olympic games. 

 

Monday 27th April 2020

Today, the children were using a program on the computer, using their layering skills the children overlaid images to create silly pictures. They have also been researching European countries and fact finding/flag design.

 

Friday 24th April 2020

Today the children completed a forest school activity and embarked on a minibeast hunt! They observed where animals lived and how their habitats were adapted for their survival. After this we created our own minibeast homes and hotels to attract more life to our environmental area!
To complete our session, the children then designed their own ideal environmental areas including bee hives, ponds, greenhouses and bird houses.

 

Thursday 23rd April 2020

During today’s session, the children created their very own lava lamps. To do this, they used vegetable oil, water and food colouring. When creating their lava lamps, the children discussed the changes that happened to their solution and the science behind it. The children then created a poster to describe how they conducted their experiment and the resources needed - their aim was to encourage others to take part in this science experiment too.

The children have also created a rainbow of flowers made from plastic bottles. The children cut the bottle to size, then gave it a slight rub so that the paint would stick to the bottle. The flowers were then painted and put into a rainbow. 

 

 

Wednesday 22nd April 2020

Today, the children have designed their own mandalas and then created one in the environmental area. They have also discussed and then designed their own Olympic mascot.

 

Tuesday 21st April

The children played animal top trumps then researched an animal of their choice including threats they might face in the wild. They have also created collages to celebrate Earth day which is on Wednesday 22nd April.

 

Monday 20th April 2020

Today, the children have expressed their character and personality through art and have created 'Personality Swirls'. They have also enjoyed creating forest school art in the beautiful sunshine. 

 

Friday 17th April 2020

 

The children have had another busy and enjoyable day in school. They have created Easter cards and Easter scenes, enjoyed some French activities followed by activities that will go in a special time capsule.

Today, Wednesday 15th April 2020, the children have made 'Bunny Bunting', learnt about the 'Life Cycle of a Frog' and did some sketching outside in the glorious sunshine.
