  • Meet our Governors

Pete Greenhalgh - Chair of Governors

Hello, my name is Pete Greenhalgh, and I am in my 25th year as a teacher.  I am currently part of the humanities team at Shuttleworth College where I teach History.    I have been involved in school governorship at secondary level for the past 14 years, at my previous school in Bolton and at Shuttleworth College.  I joined the governing body of Lowerhouse in 2020 to bring a closer link between local secondary and primary education providers.

Governorship is a role I really enjoy, being able to contribute a teacher’s perspective of school life to the other members of the governing body and support the development of students across a community.

Outside of school, I enjoy all things outdoors, from fishing for trout and salmon in the rivers of Lancashire, to fell walking in the Lakes and bird watching around our coastline.

    Gary Lloyd - Head Teacher

I am proud to be the Headteacher at our fantastic school. It has been a privilege to work at Lowerhouse Junior School since January 2025, but I have worked in education since September 2004, which is now many years ago!  Throughout my career in education, I have been determined to ensure that all children have the best possible experiences. My passion in education is helping children reach beyond their potential as well as providing sporting opportunities.

In my role as headteacher, I am looking forward to using my experience to support the leadership of Lowerhouse Junior School in continuing to develop our curriculum, education and experiences for all our children.

    Hannah Marsden - Staff Governor

I have had the privilege of working with the children and families of Lowerhouse Junior School in a number of roles over the last ten years, and I am excited to take on my new role of Deputy Headteacher.

I am passionate about teaching and learning and working hard to get the best outcomes for all children here at Lowerhouse. My special interests in teaching are maths and also ensuring that the school has a comprehensive and supportive early help offer to ensure all our families are receiving the support they need to thrive. As Inclusion Manager, I work closely with our school SENCO to ensure that the provision we have in place for pupils meets their needs and ensures they are making good progress.

I enjoy working as staff governor and being able to share the achievement and progress of our pupils with our supportive governing body.

    Lucy Binns - Governor

I have spent my entire career in education, driven by a passion for helping students succeed. After completing my studies, I began my professional journey at a local high school where I taught History for seven years. During this time, I also led the Religious Education (RE) and Personal, Social, and Health Education (PSHE) areas, working closely with students to guide their academic and personal development.

Building on my experience in secondary education, I transitioned to Nelson and Colne College, where I have had the privilege of teaching Philosophy, Ethics, and Religion at A-Level, as well as teaching on the Access to Higher Education programme. In my current role as Humanities Curriculum Leader for A-Levels, I work with the A-Level team to ensure that students receive a high-quality education that prepares them for their A-Level studies and beyond.

Being a school governor is a rewarding experience, as it allows me to see the educational process from a wider perspective. I take pride in offering my advice and expertise, always aiming to contribute to the ongoing development of Lowerhouse Junior School.

    Hannah Boulton - Parent Governor

As a parent and someone who’s passionate about education and the wider community, I love the opportunity to get more involved and support the school in any way I can.

I’ve worked in education for the last 20 years, moving from Nursery Manager to HLTA and working as part of the Senior Leadership Team, then the last 3 years I have gone into children’s services and community work. This has given me a good understanding of the challenges schools and families face, as well as experience in areas like safeguarding, supporting vulnerable children, children with SEND and working with different agencies to improve outcomes for young people.

As a parent of children who do and have attended Lowerhouse Junior School, I already feel a strong connection to the school. Now, with my child beginning his journey at Lowerhouse Junior School, I’m keen to be part of the next four years, and beyond, contributing to collaborative working and supporting the school in any way I can.
