Year 4 - Palmer

Planet Saviours - Our Pledges

Welcome to Palmer!

Our Teacher is Miss Roberts and our Teaching Assistant is Miss Bruty.

We have PE every Friday. For this half term, we are going swimming on Tuesdays and Thursdays (please check your child's letter to see which group they are in).

Spellings will be sent home every Friday for a spelling quiz the following week - please practice these regularly.

Spellings for Friday 27th May

Useful links: - This is currently our homework focus. Please ensure your child practices the times tables that have been set for them every week as this will be checked to award homework dojos as well as ensuring reading books are read and signed.

Star of the week

Charlie - For always being kind and looking out for others, including celebrating other children’s achievements.

Head Teacher’s Award - Resilience

Xander - For never giving up when problem solving, particularly in Maths.

Well done to Stanley who earned a Gold award for his personal learning challenge and Millen who was awarded Gold for helping to locate a lost possession.

A week in Palmer

We have finished looking at ‘The Mousehole Cat’ by writing our own versions this week. We have moved onto examining different types of poetry, starting with Haiku poems. We learned that they should follow the structure of 5,7,5 for how many syllables there are on a line.

Our current times table champion is: Lexie

We have practiced mental methods for addition and subtraction including adding more than two numbers in a calculation using number bonds for reordering. We have applied this to finding the perimeter of a rectilinear shape.

Our topic is 'States of Matter'. We investigated the best location in the classroom to dry wet socks based on our knowledge of evaporation. We recorded our predictions and our Science ambassadors have recorded the results for us to discuss next week.

Our theme this half term is 'Water, Water Everywhere'. Our Geography focus is on rivers, so this week we looked at how rivers can cause flooding and the impact this has on local communities. We linked this to the Padiham floods in 2020.

We are learning about photo editing.

Our topic this half term is Islam.

The children are going swimming in two groups. They then have a separate PE session with FUNDA.

We are focusing on Ancient Egypt this half term.
