Art and Design

Art and Design Statement of Intent

At Lowerhouse Junior school we believe that creativity is a vital life skill. We feel that the teaching of art should develop creativity, develop problem solving skills and expose children to a variety of visual techniques and media to develop their own creative output.

The Art and design curriculum is developed around the idea of experimentation. Practical skills are taught to the children as a tool for them to use to experiment and develop their ideas. Lessons are designed to give children increasing ownership of their outcomes as projects progress and develop their self-reflective skills to further improve their ideas over time.
