English 

 

Our English lessons this half term are based around the book Skellig by David Almond. 

 

 


 

 

Maths

 

In maths this half term we will be following Red Rose Mastery as our scheme of work for maths. 

 

The first unit is place value.

 

We have also worked on our mental addition and subtraction strategies as well as more formal methods of adding and subtracting. 

 

We are currently using multiplication grids to multiply a number up to four digits by a two digit number. 

 

 

 

Science

 

In Science this half term, we will be learning about Living things and their habitats - classification. 

The children will know and be able to:

 

  • Describe how living things are classified into broad groups according to common observable characteristics and based on similarities and differences, including micro-organisms, plants and animals. 

  • Give reasons for classifying plants and animals based on specific characteristics. 

  • Living things can be grouped into micro-organisms, plants and animals. 

  • Vertebrates can be grouped as fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. 

  • Invertebrates can be grouped as snails and slugs, worms, spiders and insects. 

  • Plants can be grouped as flowering plants (incl. trees and grasses) and non-flowering plants (such as ferns and mosses). 

  

 

 

 

 

 

 

Topic

 

 

This half term our topic is geography and we will be focusing on 'Exploring North America'

and our enquiry questions is:  

 

What do we know about North America and what are its main geographical features? 

We will be conducting a N.America study; looking at rivers and mountains, and the distribution of resource.
